The Bristol Brawl is an annual wargaming event that takes place in Iron Acton, near Bristol. At the event, players compete in games of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer 40,000 and/or Warhammer Ancient Battles.

The weekend is divided into two single day competitions, the results from which are combined to give an overall score for the entire weekend of gaming. Players can play in one of the three systems on one or both days or choose a different system each day. They are also allowed to use a different army each day even if they play the same system.

The Saturday started off with heavy rain but this didnt dampen the spirits of the players. After bacon sandwiches and coffee the day got underway at around 9:45 a.m. Apart from the fire alarm going off because of steam from the hot water urn, things proceeded as normal. Seven hours, an excellent hot lunch and many dice rolls later the results of the first days play were in. The All Conquering Champions (for the day) were; Andy Winton - Fantasy, Steve Butler - 40,000 and Adrian Clark - Ancients. The players then retired to diverse hostelries to analyse the day over some cold drinks and more food.

Sunday began with the threat of rain and a lot of the players were somewhat subdued. Again, the life giving properties bacon sandwiches and hot coffee helped to get the day off to a good start. A major disaster was narrowly averted when the oven refused to work but the skilled Catering Corps still produced a hot lunch for 60 hungry people! Three hard fought games later, we were able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The results for the Sunday event were Mark Gibbon emerging victorious in Fantasy, Steve Pearce in the 40,000 and Martin Gibbins in the Ancients.

The overall scores for both the Saturday and Sunday events were collated and to the victors went the spoils.

Best Painted Army: Rob Broom with his Ancient Samurai army.

Most Sporting Player was drawn between Martin Thornton, Michael Ayres and Chris Stone with Chris winning the dice roll off to lift the trophy.

Third overall for Generalship was a tie between Steve and Martin Thornton. Although Steve won the dice roll off they agreed to share the honours.

Second overall for Generalship was Mark Gibbon

Overall Winner, and Top General of the Bristol Brawl 2002 was Andy Winton using his Fantasy Empire army.

Thanks to everyone who attended. Special thanks to Sally, Queenie, Tracey, John, Steve, Mark and Rob for the vital support necessary to ensure the smooth running of the event. Same time next year everyone!

The true winners were all who played and enjoyed themselves
